The web, messaging and intelligence in one place
Muddy is a multiplayer browser built for teams. Instead of scattering work across a dozen tabs, half a dozen apps and a separate chat tool, it pulls the web, your conversations and an AI layer into a single shared workspace — apps, files and people side by side. Early users reached for a simple shorthand: if ChatGPT was a browser — the familiar web, with messaging and intelligence built in.
I designed Muddy across four fronts: the desktop product, the mobile app, the brand and launch campaign, and the motion work that showed it in use. What follows brings those threads together.
Muddy Desktop — the product
Muddy Desktop turns the browser into a place a whole team can work, rather than a tool one person uses alone. The starting point was a familiar frustration: collaboration is a mess of apps and files, and keeping it tidy is its own job. Muddy’s answer was to let the workspace organise itself and to layer communication and intelligence directly onto the web.
That begins with a workspace that tidies itself — Muddy’s AI reads your open tabs and arranges them around what you care about, so a shared space stays ordered without anyone maintaining it. On top of that sits universal commenting: highlight, click, send, and you can comment on almost anything, whether that’s a region of an image, a timestamp in a video, a precise point inside a live site or a single line of text. The thread attaches to the page itself rather than living in a separate channel. Presence works the same way — you can see what everyone is working on across projects and join them inside the same app or conversation in a click, so collaboration feels genuinely useful rather than decorative.
The deeper ideas are rewind and intelligence. Infinite rewind lets you scrub back through everything a space has held — apps, files, conversations — and drop straight into any moment, with sites and files loading on the spot; it’s the rewind button shared work never had. And because Muddy continuously reads your active tabs and learns from your conversations, its AI can answer the kind of in-the-moment question you’d normally have to ask a teammate, asking its own follow-ups when it needs more. No exporting context into a separate chatbot and hoping it sticks.
Underneath all of it sits quieter, engineering-led craft: tabs hibernate when idle and wake on demand to keep things fast, and your cookies and logins stay on your own machine rather than a server. The brief throughout was restraint — keeping a tool this capable feeling calm and legible.
Muddy Mobile — the experience on smaller screens
Muddy Mobile carries the same shared workspace onto the phone — adapting density, navigation and the way conversations and live pages behave to a touch screen, so a team can stay in the loop and act from anywhere without losing what makes the desktop product coherent.
Brand & launch — making a new idea legible
A product this unfamiliar lives or dies on how clearly it explains itself, so the launch met each kind of team where they were. Rather than one generic pitch, Muddy told tailored stories for engineering, design, marketing, product, customer success and sales — and for concrete uses like project management, deal rooms, research and resource hubs — each framed around what that team actually wants, whether that’s shipping faster, keeping everything in front of you, running every campaign in one place or closing deals together. It ran as creative across web and social, all aligned to Muddy’s brand identity.
Motion — showing it in use
A browser you talk and act inside is hard to convey in stills. I made a series of motion pieces that showcase Muddy’s features and interactions — short explorations that let you watch the product working rather than read about it.
